Uncomfortable truths of Bitcoin mining pools.
We can say there are only a few “primary pools”
A primary pool should tick three boxes
1. Create its block template
2. Own/control the coinbase transaction
3. Sign the block (Could be optional)
Most FPPS pools are incapable of meeting these criteria.
Binance #4 with 53 EH
Luxor #6 with 17 EH
BTC.com #8 with 10.8 EH
EMCD #7 pool with 11.6 EH
Poolin # 12 with 5.4
Ultimus #17 with 1.85 eH
Are all just hashrate aggregators and are many simply buying labels from antpool?

Wrap Up
Merry Christmas Everyone! From Max, Jon, Mr. Crown, The Pleb Miner Mafia, and the Meshtadel. May the New Year bring you all health, happiness, and peace.
You know what I need to do, Max? - Hmm. - I have to turn off this inline fan. - Okay. - 'Cause it makes like a whole sound. I'll be right back. Okay. - Barbies everywhere. - Yours, me, me, me, me, me.
- Have yourself a merry little Christmas. - Quite a good voice actually, mate. - Hey, thanks, buddy. First compliment ever, potentially the last. I wish I had like a little piece of paper here that I kept that nobody messed with, which is impossible for me to have anything in here that's not gonna get messed with.
- Yeah, no good luck. - Of all the things I pretended to write down that you said. - Yeah, yeah. - It'd be a long list. - We could go back, but we weren't. - That could be something somebody else does.
- Yes. - Hey, if anybody would like to listen through all of our episodes and write down the things that I said I'm going to write down that Max said, have at it, I will give you 1,000 sets.
- That's very generous. I'll give you 2,000 sets, bounty. What if someone does this in 20 years? 'Cause technically it will still be up. And what if then that 3,000 set bounty is actually money that matters?
Hey, then good for them. I'll stick by it. - Okay, I will too. - I will hold a 1,000 set UTXO just for this. I probably won't, but I'll have some old lightning wallet or something. And as long as I'm not bankrupt, which is possible, I promise I'll pay it.
- There you go. - How's that? - I love it. I believe you too. How are you, mate? - Oh, how am I? I'm happy. I'm moisturized. I'm relaxed. I'm in my lane. How are you, friend? - Very similar.
(laughing) - You threw me for it loop there. I wasn't expecting very similar. I was but, ah, mate, it's a fucking nightmare. Carnage. - Oh, fuck. - That's a yoy thing. - What the fuck is going on today?
- Hey, what's going on today? It's fucking Carnage today. (laughing) It's always true. That's the problem. - I just always imagine blood and guts in your house. Carnage. - Really much. There's more blood and guts at work and then more carnage at home.
- Oh, okay. There's a deviation there, a line of delineation between your work and home life. - Yes, less blood here, but more carnage. No, all good, mate. I'm looking forward to the holidays.
I'm looking forward to winding down a little bit. And, oh, guess what I just ordered yesterday. I sold my car. Oh, what did you just order with all your car money? I sold my car, paid off the credit card, which is fucking delightful, 'cause that's been looming for like two years now, and it's been disgusting paying that, mm-hmm.
Paid that, and then I had a little bit left over, so I ordered a really, really nice bench, adjustable bench, like gym bench, and two adjustable dumbbells with a stand. Really fucking nice ones, which should have arrived this morning, but apparently the van broke down usual sort of shit, but I bought myself a little Christmas present,
so that next year, I come back stronger. Your Christmas present to your missus is a rock and bard. That's good. You don't pay for that with money. You pay for the sweat, sweat equity. - Well, you pay for it with both, 'cause it was fucking expensive.
- It wasn't. - It was, yeah, it was actually. I still call it low time preference, because I went for a proper stainless steel, everything properly built, really heavy, should last a lifetime kind of stuff.
I should be 80, still working on that bench. - Okay. - Yeah, why not? You can be 80. - Why not? I didn't mean to be negative, so sorry. - Yeah, that's all right. - That's everything you do, though, is a commitment to quality.
- I try. - I don't have that. As you know, in my backyard, I've got that pole in between two trees, a bar in between two trees and some palettes. - That was good. - Some weights? - Yeah. No, that's way better than what I did originally.
I copied what you did, but the execution was extremely poor. Well, my execution is extremely poor, too, 'cause all that shit's still sitting up there. I don't want to come in the house. If I come in the house, I'm screwed.
- Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. - That's the problem. - There comes a downer, do this. - Read me a story. The printer's broken. Can you cook this washer's broken? No, I broke this tile. Can you fix that?
- I nailed it, yeah. - Yeah. - So I'll try to stay outside, but I've been outside in the cold all day. And I'm like, it's going to go inside. - This is the problem. You need a man cave. - Yeah.
Okay, I'm going to get there. That is my man cave outside. - Outside, it's just one massive man cave. - That's right. - Three acres of yard, that's my outside. - No, but you see what you need to do is do something where it's hidden, like maybe a shipping container underground or some sort of Batman-style shit,
whereas like, hey, kids, look, I've got to go out, the lawn mower's broken, and then you like go into your shitty little shed. Oh, I've got a bin here. And they're like, oh, that's boring.
I don't want to go into a stove and I'm in there. Then you go in there and then down some little stairs, you've got your gym, you've got the recording studio, you've got all your things that are places where you put them and they're not moved and broken and covered in snot and shit.
- And you can just be, yeah. - This is gross, I don't want to be in this man cave. - That is not, oh, there's not. Oh, I thought you did something wrong. - No, sorry. - Yeah, this is the point, this is your little zen, you can go there and you can be like, ooh, this is nice and no self-unception.
- Yeah, no reception, doesn't that sound nice? Maybe in the next bull run. - I'm gonna write that down too, man cave. You know what I could do? I can call Ben from Lake Satoshi, bring all his excavators over and dig me this big giant hole.
And that's Pled Synergy, I'd pay him in sats. Ben, come on over and take a big giant hole in the backyard. - You can call the other Ben for all the timber. - I could do that, yeah. Shipping might be a little bit tough.
- That's true. - He could come here with his little chainsaw and log the place. - That'd be nice, he'd probably do that as well. - He would, Pled Synergies. - Well, this place-- - Anyway, it was off here, Max.
- Yep, we have a very special Christmas holiday, New Year's message from one of our Pledminer Mafia Capo O.G.'s Youper Hoddle. You may remember him from his Youper box, which was the upstream data black box home bill that he sort of modified to take heat off, to heat his home up.
So we'd like to open the show up, the very special Christmas message from Youper Hoddle. Greetings to the Pledminer Mafia and all you ungovernable misfits. This is Youper coming to you from the Great White North, along the shores of beautiful Lake Superior in Marquette, Michigan.
As the year comes to a close, I'm sending you wishes for a joyful holiday filled with found blocks and decentralized cheer. May the upcoming year be filled with many blessings, successful ventures and endless hashing.
Here's to a year of unyielding camaraderie and memorable moments. From my family to yours, we wish all of you a happy holidays and a fantastic new year. Cheers, you motherfuckers. (laughing) - That's so sweet.
I've got tears in my eyes. What a guy. He was beautiful. Thanks, Youper. Inspiring, it is my, I'm inspired to celebrate Christmas with my family. Love and peace and joy, those motherfuckers.
(laughing) He's getting a little bit too mushy. I'd say, well, this is an ungovernable misfits, I better. Spice it up. They like the curse. (laughing) That was beautiful. Thank you, mate.
That's got me all Christmas Day. Hey, Max, what's your favorite Christmas song? - The Darkness. I can't remember what it's called. Do you know that one? - The Band of the Darkness. - Yeah, they did a Christmas song.
- They did. Is that the one where the guy sings real loud? ♪ I believe in a thing called love ♪ - Yeah. I always liked that. It always makes me laugh. - Oh, I didn't know they had a Christmas song.
I'm gonna look like that. - That is the Christmas song. - Oh, that is the Christmas song. I believe in a thing called Love. - Apparently this is supposed to be my favorite Christmas song.
I don't even fucking know what I was thinking about. - You made it up. It just was off the top of your head. - I didn't make it up. I was listening to it yesterday. We went and got a Christmas tree and we were listening to Christmas songs.
I was like, "I'll get that darkness one on." We played it, but I was thinking about other things. So I didn't really take it in. I'm pretty sure it was a Christmas song. - You need a break.
You really need to immerse yourself into something other than ungovernable misfits. - Yeah. - We were talking about that off air a couple of weeks over Christmas and New Year. I'm just fucking going dark mode.
I'm off. Had enough. - Are you sure you're not taking any calls on if you want to get involved in some kind of dispute on Twitter? - I can confirm. Yes, I don't have to go to fuck. Everyone can do what they want, run what they want, use what they want.
And I don't need to know about it. - You're right. - I'm just gonna spend some time with my new weight bench, my dumbbells, some good food, put the heating on, really treat myself so I'm warm.
Wow, it's a big deal for you. Yeah, take the dog for a walk, spend some time with family, and then I'll come back refreshed next year. Then maybe I might care about some of the bullshit that people want to winch about.
- All right. - Probably not, but there's more chance. What about you? - What's my favorite Christmas song? - I don't really care about that. - You don't? - No. - Oh, I'm gonna tell you anyway.
- Are you gonna take some time off? - Yeah, I will take time off from Twitter. I was thinking about deleting my Twitter account completely and starting fresh. - Yeah, do that. - You think so?
I won't come back as John DeJaucomo, it'll be some other motherfucker, but you'll still have the same symbol. It's kind of iconic. Gay little pigeon on a pole. (laughing) - We always have to look at that when you call me.
It's just this fucking little pigeon. I'm like, oh, perched. - Perched. (laughing) - You're gonna come off your perch for Christmas then? - Turn everything off and just. - Yeah. I'll come off the broadcast.
I take a week off for Christmas, so I won't be perching anywhere. - Oh, okay. - Not in a bucket, not on a pole, not on hooks, not on pole steps. No perching. Yeah, I'll take a week off and mess around here, play with the train set underneath the tree, do a break job on the car.
That seems like a nice winter time activity. - Oh, that's very Christmassy. - Yeah, yeah, tractor. I still don't put my plow on my tractor. Stuff like that. Relax. - Well, you know how to lift mine.
- I do, that's good times. I'm outside in my man cave. Notice these were all outside in my man cave activities. - Peace and quiet. - Yeah, I take it. Well, I appreciate the Christmas message from Yupra Hoddle, but we also have many other messages from the wonderful, fantastic plebs that support and love this show through value, for value,
podcasting 2.0 apps like Fountain, Breeze, and more. - Yeah, we'll see you at the one pod first. - That's something, yeah. - Oh, I have a little Christmas message. - You do? - Yeah. I have a Christmas message to say a big thank you to Lincoln Park Rules, who is a listener of this show, who has been working tirelessly in the background
to help us with our podcasting 2.0 and make it more accessible to people, make sure that everyone who wants to send in sats or messages gets read. And yeah, I just wanted to say a big thank you because he's done it off his own back just because he likes the show.
And he's put a huge amount of work in and I actually feel bad because often he's writing and asking me questions and I haven't had time to get back to him, but just know you're appreciated mate.
It's fucking cool to have people reach out and help like that. - I agree. And when you don't answer, I at least put a thumbs up or something in the chat. Let him know that he's loved. - He is loved and it's gonna kick off next year.
We're gonna have more options and make it properly open 'cause that's something I didn't really understand at the start. I was like, oh yeah, everyone can message and every time it's not a message and send sats, we're just gonna see it because this is Bitcoin and this is how it's supposed to be and open
and that's all these buzz words that are used. And like, oh, actually, no. It's kind of like closed off. And if somebody sends from a different platform, a message, then we don't get to read it and they might have sent us sats in a message and then they think that we don't care about their message and it all just felt a bit comfy to me.
And so he is jumped in and put loads of effort in and next year we're gonna be changing things up so that we can see every message or we can interact with everyone who loves the show. So yeah, appreciate you mate.
I had no idea there was that much involved in it till he starts typing out all this stuff and I'm like, holy shit, okay. I said, I'm the other day. I said, I'm like a machine gunner in an infantry unit.
You just point me in a direction and I'll shoot. Just tell me what to do. Next year, we'll come back strong and we'll be jumping on that. But until then, here's the messages that we can read from Fountain.
Late-stage HODL, 5555 sats. I listened to this on Thanksgiving but fees were too high and I didn't reload my wallet on Fountain. Keep up the good work, y'all. I'm thankful for what all y'all do.
Max, please say, oh, there we go again. Max, please say Aluminium Garage. But like you live in Alabama, I can't do five accents. - Yeah, what do you say? I can't even think how I do that.
Aluminium Garage. (laughing) That's not for me. That is woeful. Aluminium Garage. Yeah, that sounds like about as bad as base's impression of me. Yes, yeah. It's on that level, isn't it? You got to hear Brother Rabbit's impression of base load.
He's don't want to base load. Yeah, he's got one. He's not shared that with me. He shared it with me. He tried to trick me. Act like it was base load. Leave me a message. It was rabbit. You rascally rabbit.
I'll look forward to that. The Alabama accent is a drawl. There are a little slower down there in Alabama. If you watch Forrest Gump, he was supposed to be from Alabama. Greenbow, Alabama.
My friend Brent. This is like been my best friend for the longest time. We were in the Marine Corps together. We had a house on the beach in the Marine Corps. That was a party house. Everybody came to there.
Had a good time. I was like, oh yeah. Anyway, old times, he had a really thick southern accent. This guy's smart. He's an electrical engineer. He's a chemical engineer. He used to work on a nuclear power plant like as one of their lead engineers.
Fucker smart, but he sounds like an idiot with that Alabama accent. And he would get over on people all the time playing this role, this dumb Alabama. You know, like act like he was confused and stuff.
I don't know what you mean. Well, like we go to McDonald's one time and he's like, oh no, let me get a Big Mac. Coke, on a fries, I guess. I was like, Brent, that's a number three. Why don't you just order a number three?
You know me, I'm all uptight about stuff. And he's like, yeah, what do you mean? Like number three, it says it right up there. You know, you can just get this combo, right? You don't have to order everything individually.
Like a fucking idiot. I don't know, man. Yeah, the Big Mac, a fries, a medium Coke. He used to do this all the time. We went to go see a movie. He was like, hey, stop by the beer star. I'm gonna get a case of beer.
Like, you can't fucking bring a case of beer in the movie theater. No, it's all right. I'm like, okay, so we go and get our tickets, walk in to, you know, pass the kid that takes the tickets.
And kids like, sorry, you can't bring in a case of beer here to the movie theater. They're like, oh no, it's okay. You can't bring, what do you care? I'm not gonna leave pans a little bit of floor.
I'm just gonna bring it in. And the kid was like, okay. I'm gonna be tricking with the dumb Alabama act. So it might be worth your time to learn how to speak like you're from Alabama, 'cause it works.
People assume and know that I'm stupid already. I don't need to do that. (laughs) Look at your face. Yeah, exactly this. Look at me. This guy's retarded. What was this show? Was it Poirot, where he did that, the detective?
And he like, plays dumb all the time? Hmm. Silence, obviously not. Colombo, maybe that was it. Yeah, Colombo would come back and be like, "Sir, I need to ask you one more question. When you said your wife saw the perpetrator coming in but she also wears very thick glasses.
I'm a little confused. Yeah, he would do that and trick him. That's the one. Yeah. People would just get so mad and frustrated they would admit every crime that they ever committed to him.
Brilliant. All right, next message is from We All Eat. We all know who that is. And he says, great start so far. Get things going. Get his first boost in as he's listening. And then here he is again.
We all eat 21,210 sats. Another absolute banger. L-M-F-A-O. Love him. Yeah. But you podcast warrior talking shit through the mic. Get your ass over here in August for Lake Satoshi. Yeah, fuck that cunt of English.
What? Fuck that cunt of England. I'll fuck that cunt of England, just the whole country. In scribe your fucking idiots. Get these sats from your weak paper hands to us fucking diamond-handed pleb minors.
Great show. And you are ahead of the pool controversy with the info. Spot on fellas. Mate, we're always about 10 steps ahead. And I'll keep talking shit through the mic. I won't be coming over for Lake Satoshi.
Can't afford it out of the time. But one day, I'll come and talk shit to your face and you can get me a slap. Wonderful. I look forward to that. Can I be there? You'll definitely be there.
Filming. Yeah, it'll be a wonderful moment. Yeah, I'll be training. That's why I've got all this stuff. There you go. I'm ready for you. Training in style. Next one is from Ben 517 BTC. Art will play endless sats for doing every Lake Satoshi ad in the Bill Clinton accent.
We can do that. We'll see what I can muster up. Art does not have sexual relations for that woman. Another one from Ben. Oops. That other boost was missing a zero. Well, good. You made up for it.
Where's the Bill Clinton accent? Oops. And where's the endless sats? Oops. That other boost was missing a zero. We'll get them. We'll see. We'll see. You know, Link and Park Rules will tell us.
Next one is from Eric Blockhouse. Thanks for the great content, as always. Here are some sats for a shameless plug to promote my Bitcoin Quiz YouTube channel. Blockhouse's Bitcoin Brainiacs.
YouTube.com/at Blockhouse's H-O-U-S-E-S Bitcoin Brainiacs. Eric Blockhouse is a plebminor mafia capo. And I told him we would tell everybody about his YouTube's channel. And it's like Quiz Show.
It's like comes up. What's how many Bitcoin will there ever be? Bing, Bing, 21 million. Great thing to watch for your kids. Or anyone in 120-- Well, actually, no, never quite be 21 million.
Oh, god. You sniped me last one. Actually. Actually. Oh, motherfuckers. Anyone, go to Eric Blockhouse's Bitcoin Brainiacs YouTube channel and take some quizzes. See how good of a dad you are.
You've been educating your kids. Let's see if they can answer it. Mine can. I reckon your kids probably know more about Bitcoin and mining than the average, well, actually on Twitter. It's quite possible, yeah.
Especially number one. It'd be interesting to see that. You know, like the really mouthy cunts on Twitter. I think they're really smart. And there are a lot of them. Just put them up against number one.
She get all shy. Oh, yeah, they're going to pump her up. Come on, Rocky. You can do it. But a Bitcoin. This is making a return to say Canada did Thanksgiving first. We are still commie fucks, but we started that.
OK. If it's true, Ferri...
