Rick is a sat stacking, 3D Printing, Gamer and Founder of CryptoCloaks.com
CryptoCloaks was born from a love of 3D printing & Bitcoin. They design & build 3D printed products for Bitcoiners: wallet mounts, node cases, Art, Merch & clothing. Their mission is to bring creative product design & innovative solutions to Bitcoiners. They’re also wide open to new collaborations & custom projects.
Things are moving so fast for these guys – their early products already look retro compared to the latest designs. Arguably their hottest new line is the custom Triton Case for RasPi4 based Bitcoin nodes. It’s inspired by those dope PC Gaming cases, with transparent side walls, sick ass Whirlpool front panel designs & mounts for multiple Pis, SSDs & coloured LED fans.
Their stealth hardware wallet mounts help you hide your Coldcard/Trezor/Ledger in discrete hard to reach locations. Its a genius product concept!
Its clear CC’s products are born from the wants & desires of real Bitcoiners. They’re pushing new ground by serving the needs & wants of this emerging space. They also love paying homage to the big memes, brands & jokes out there, bringing ideas to life with high build quality & beautiful design.
"Artists & builders are front-running Bitcoin’s marketing campaign. We listen to Bitcoiners. They tell us what they want & we make it."

Bitcoin is close to becoming worthless.
Let's go!
Now, what's the Bitcoin? Bitcoin's like rat poison. Yeah. Oh. The greatest scam in history. Let's get it. Bitcoin will go to fucking zero. Yeah. Yeah.
Alright, you ungovernable misfits. I'm your host, Max. Everybody knows that Bitcoin is useless, worthless, and doomed to fail. But what if everyone's wrong? What if it's the system that is doomed to fail?
Join me as I speak to some of the brightest people in the space, and sit there to the deepest, darkest depths of the Bitcoin rabbit hole.
Welcome back, everyone. Today's episode is with Rick from Crypto Clokes. They've been doing some amazing things. I really, really love what they're doing. We featured them on 21ism a few months ago, and I thought it would be well worth catching up with him to see how things are.
Really enjoyed the chat, and I hope you enjoy it as well. I also want to say thank you to my sponsor's coin floor if you're in the UK, and you want to use a dollar-cost averaging service, then they are the one to use.
They have a fantastic team, and although I am very much against KYC, you know, if you want to run a business in the UK, you've got to do it. If you want no KYC, then you go bisque, you go hodl-hodl, and if you're not going to do that, then make sure you use a great service like coin floor UK.
Sorry. I'm probably here that in the background. I'm sure you're going to. Fucking dog. Just, that's a ridiculous noise to make. I'm going to pig. Anyway, enjoy the show, and yeah, if you haven't already checked out all the incredible stuff that is available on Crypto Clokes, go and check it out now.
I'm sure this will sell it to you. They are a really fucking cool Bitcoin-only company. Test, test. Can you hear me? Can you hear me? Yeah, I can hear you. We're golden. Oh, perfect. Test out my new microphone, finally.
You sound very good. What microphone is it? I got the Yeti Blue, finally. Me too. I've got the same. Yeah, it's nice. Really nice. When are you doing some sort of cover for it? Yeah, I actually have it on right now.
Oh, nice. It's like an orange peel or something like that. Yeah, it's just got to find time to do it and get more made and finalize the design. It looked cool from what I'd seen. And it sits on the back of the mic rather than the front, is that right?
Yeah, so it'll sit on the side opposite of the person. So it faces a webcam or whatever, and it literally screws into the mount if you have one of the adjustable bars. Very cool. I have to get myself one of those.
Yeah, because when I first saw it, I was like, I love that. The only worry I had was the sound quality, because I was thinking I might sit around the front. But if it's around the back, then it won't interfere.
Yep, exactly. Cool. Well, welcome back to the show. Thanks, man. I had a great time on the last one. And I thought, right, it's about time I reach out and have you back on, because you guys have been moving fast.
And I thought, it'd be nice to have a bit of a catch-up and see what's been happening. Yeah, we are going fast. There's no slowing down right now, that's for sure. You said to me the other day, I don't know if I'm allowed to say this.
Do you have maybe a bit more full-time with this now? I'm 100% full-time. OK, I did know that. I didn't want to say it, and you say fuck off. You weren't supposed to say anything. That's amazing.
No, man, I've been full-time now for two weeks. I'm living the dream. That's awesome. Well, congratulations. Very well deserved, and I'm very happy for you. Thanks, man. Yeah, it's nice. I'm not as stressed anymore.
And I could just focus 100% on the business and making cool shit. That's what it's all about. Well, like we said last time, when we featured you on 21ism, cool shit is what you guys do. It's non-stop.
I love some of the stuff that I've been seeing, and the individual input that's going in there, and especially with these Triton cases. I love that neon, green-y, yellow-y one that I saw was so fucking cool.
And all these things that you're doing are great. So you've gone full-time. Has anyone else done the same? No. Everybody else is rocking the regular jobs. I think I run more of the production line and stuff like that.
So that takes up a lot of time from running printers, and managing that side of the business, and then trying to produce the orders, assemble them, package them, and ship them all out. It just got to be way too much to come home from work, doing a nine to five, and then sitting in the shop from
shit, 5/30 when I got home until sometimes 11 o'clock midnight, and then waking up back at five o'clock the next morning to go back to work and do it all over again. Yeah, you can do it for so long that you end up being burnt out.
Yeah, the wife wasn't too happy about that one, because I didn't have any time. And on weekends, Saturday and Sunday turned into enjoying the weekends until just catch-up work. It turned into I need to get in the shop and get orders out, because I just feel bad when people start waiting seven to 10 days to get an order.
I actually feel bad. That's the thing is you want to do what's right for the customers, and you're building a reputation, you're building a brand, and it's such a hard thing, especially at the beginning when everything is new, and you're just trying to find your feet and build it.
And there is just so much work that goes into it. I think a lot of people, until they've done it, they don't appreciate just how much of a grind it is. Yeah, sometimes I think people don't understand that I didn't just pop out of nowhere.
I've been building it up for like three years. I know a lot of people do, and they're like, "Holy crap, I remember when you just had one printer in the shop." I'm like, "Damn, you have been along for the entire journey.
Like, you have been around for three years watching us grow." It's awesome to hear that. Yeah, it's been amazing watching it grow. And I've seen on Twitter, you've had sort of more and more of these printers going in, just building out more and more, and the shop seems to be absolutely buzzing.
Does it ever stop? Does it ever get turned off and turned down, or is it like a non-stop printing machine running all the time? No, man, those printers run 24/7. Like, the only time they ever stop is when I have to do monthly maintenance on them, just so I don't burn them to the ground.
I agree lubing all the frickin' shafts and bearings, and making sure they're not grinding away, and replacing nozzles if I need to. But other than that, I honestly have them set on a schedule where they run 24/7.
And when they're done, I take them off, look at what orders I have, and then start the next batch. That's pretty much non-stop, man. Wow. And what's a life cycle with these things? Like, if they're running the whole time, do you have a lot of failures, or are they pretty sturdy?
Not really. My original printer, I finally rebuilt that one, a whole new hotend, because the nozzle actually broke off on the hotend, so I had to rebuild the whole hotend on that one. But that was three years.
That printer ran 24/7 for three years. Wow. So I can't complain on that. Like, that's amazing. That's incredible. Yeah, there's not many things I can think of built today that you can run 24 hours a day for three years, and they don't die.
That's the, yeah, exactly. Like, shit, you buy today, it's just made of plastic, and it breaks within a couple months, or like a appliance or anything like that. But these things, three years, 24/7, and I'll keep buying them, because their turn on them is amazing.
That's awesome. And when we last spoke, you said about, you were doing some filament colors that you were going to do your own. You called it like, "spool" or something like that, and I was like, I don't know what that is.
And you had to enlighten me. Is that all up and running now? Is that all for sale? Yeah, that's all live now, man. So, me, Lami, and SF, and Holy crap. Stack, Jesus, remember his name for a second.
That's sad to cut that out. It's embarrassing. That's all right. I did the same. I can't remember what date is most of the time. Yeah, so much in my mind. But no, me, SF, Lami, and Stack have busted, asked for the past year on creating a whole box filament, and it's live now, and we sell it on our website, and people are loving it.
And it's awesome to see that come to fruition after a whole year. And I have a whole, like, my whole basement now is just a rack full of filament. So, you're finding that you're having more people buy from the shop and, like, have you print them, or are you finding now that more and more people
are actually doing it from home and buying the filament, and doing it themselves? Like, are you seeing a shift at all? Uh, not really. I mean, I think it's early with the filament because it's such a, like, flooded market to try to create your own filament brand, but it really was just try to reach and make an easy place
for Bitcoiners to get a whole of filament. So, I think once it finally gets out there, people know that we do have a really good quality filament for a decent price. I think it'll start to boom a little bit more.
I know a lot of people are using our file factory, where they're downloading the files and printing them themselves with whatever filament they have. And that's awesome to see. I know in the past six months that that has really starting to take a turn where people are showing more and more things
that they're printing just from the file factory they download. And I think that stems from our Telegram group that is now up to, like, 620 people in it. And that's literally just about Bitcoin and 3D printing.
And we built that about a year ago, just to get, have a place for people to go to and learn about 3D printing if they're interested. And it's starting to boom, and it's good to see, because that's exactly the whole point of everything that I've been trying to build for three years.
Do you think it's still very early stage that people haven't really wrapped their head around it and haven't really delved into it yet? What's holding people back? Because it seems, from our last conversation, the actual cost to buy one of the machines isn't that expensive.
Like, it was pretty reasonable. I was shocked at how reasonable it was. Is it just, you think that it's very early stage? Do you see this growing over the next five, 10 years? Oh yeah, I think over the next five to 10 years, I think a lot more people will have printers.
You can even see it changing the way how corporations design products. And really, as you can see, they have cement printers, that 3D print houses. And there's a whole bunch of 3D printing companies that are starting to get a lot bigger, because they're realizing the technology behind it, what they're capable of.
For the individual household to get 3D printers, I wish everybody would have one, because they are an awesome tool to be able to design and print something, just with whatever you have at your house, is an amazing thing to do.
I think it will get more popular, the more people that hear about it, from these corporations that have it, and realize that it's really not that expensive to get into. You can buy a thousand dollar printer, or you can just start learning, and learn everything about it for 150 bucks.
And I think a lot of people are probably thrown back by thinking you have to spend 3,000 plus dollars on a printer. And that's just not the case, how it used to be five, 10 years ago. Yeah, I think when we last spoke, you said you spend a few hundred dollars, and you can get one and get started, and it's good enough to get started.
And that barrier to entry is really fucking reasonable. I was shocked. I was thinking if I'd have plucked a number out of my head, knowing nothing about it, which I still don't really. But I'd have gone a couple of grand.
That's what I had in my head. Yeah, I think that's what everybody says. Exactly. Yeah, it's really cool. Like, I love the idea that, like you're saying, you can design something in your home, and you can print it, and you can have it.
It's done. Like, that is fucking awesome, and that you have all these files, and people can share them, and that things, it almost sort of cuts out for a lot of things. It would cut out the whole shipping, and that whole messing around waiting for parts.
Exactly. There must be limits to it, though, I assume, in terms of how tough this plastic is, for example, like if you needed an auto part or something like that, it might be that you need steel, you can't have the plastic, or like, how tough, how strong are these things?
Yeah, and that comes down to, I guess, what, where you're going to use it. If you're printin' up. So stuff around my house breaks, and then I'm like, oh crap, I don't want to find a part, or I'll just design one real quick, or find a file online.
And there's been parts that have broken for my dishwasher, and I just print 'em off in PETG, which is a higher heat strength resistance plastic, and it worked great. So I didn't have to go buy a part.
That's so weird. When you said there's things that break around my house, I knew you were going to say dishwasher. Why? I don't know. It's like we're somehow connected. We were too nodes connected.
Yeah, I knew you were going to say dishwasher. That's crazy, man. But yeah, that's really cool. It might piss some of these companies off, 'cause presumably you're going to have kind of like, pirated files or whatever.
I don't know how you'd call it. See, that's the crazy thing is, I think we talked about this last time, how like Bitcoin is decentralized, like peer-to-peer money, right? Well, 3D printing is decentralized, peer-to-peer files where you can literally, it's just designs, where anybody in the world can get anything,
print it off at their house, and they don't have to worry about all the bullshit in between. That's fucking amazing. When you start putting all these ideas together, you sort of put 3D printing, the Lightning Network, some of these ideas that people are having about like, permaculture and like farming,
and all these things start to piece together, and you think, we've sort of got the building blocks here for completely new world, and completely new rails for the way that everything works.
I don't know about you, but like for me, especially over the last six to eight months, and it might be because I've been doing more with this podcast, and doing a hell of a lot with 21 isn't behind the scene, and spending more time chatting to Bitcoiners, but I'm so fucking bullish, not just on like the price, but like...
No, I am too. You find the same thing, especially now that you're full-time, you're having more sort of visions of how this thing plays out. Yeah, man, once you get into Bitcoin, you start to become more and more bullish, and you look at every aspect of it, and how everything could change.
The only thing that ever really deters me from being bullish is just how the governments can try to like fuck with shit. I'm not talking about like stopping Bitcoin, I'm talking about how large corporations can stop all this really cool stuff that we have the building blocks for, right?
But if we don't all get together and really push it, they can easily shut it down because they have the money to do it. Is there one thing in particular that comes to mind when you're thinking about that?
Like what they want to fuck with, and potentially could? I'm just not really like in particular, but I'm even thinking like 3D printing, how could they try to stop that, or how could they push the narrative to say that's negative in a light?
Because you looked at how they tried to stop you from pirating music, right? And they said it was bad, but shit. Everybody was using lime wire back in my day, or torrenting now. So it's...
I kind of go back and forth and be like, "Oh man, what happens if they try to push against it, and really try to shut it down?" But then on the other side, I look back at all the shit that has happened before, and you go, "Well, they haven't been able to stop anything."
I could literally go download a torrent of any movie, or file sharing and download a movie, or go download any program, or any game, and there's always a crack to unlock the game, so any DRMs.
I mean, no matter, I guess now that I'm talking, no matter how hard they try, there's always someone smarter that has always been able to get around it. How big do you want to make that fence?
You can make it 100 foot high, and someone's just going to dig under it, or go around it. Exactly. Fly over it, put a drone over it. There's always going to be, like you say, there's someone smarter, and there's someone more tenacious.
These people who are making the regulations, who are making the laws, they're lazy fat fucks who have eaten for years. They have just built these walled gardens, and there's people in this space who are hungry, and they're passionate.
And that's, I think, the difference is like, this comes down to hunger and passion, and that's just something they just will never win. But the narrative is important, so even if they try something they will lose, they will be away around it.
It still could be niche. Like, it could still be, you know, a million people or two million people who do it, and everyone else toes the line, and sort of agrees that, oh no, we shouldn't 3D print, because, you know, the poor corporations won't like that, or, you know, we shouldn't be doing this and that.
And maybe that's where the real battle ground is, is actually over the narrative, and over how people think about these things. Because I think once you've got that, and once it becomes mainstream, they're completely fucked, and it trickles into everything else, because they're like, "Oh, now that I've got this view about the Monday,
now I've also got this view about 3D printing, and I've got the same view about, well, why can't someone do their own farming in their own way? Why does it have to be done in this way that doesn't make sense?"
And so, I think once you capture someone's imagination like that, that's where the changes really come. So maybe Bitcoin was the building blocks to start that all. Maybe we should be super, super bullish on the future.
Because maybe Bitcoin is that one thing, where money is the most important, and if you can control the money, maybe that is the building blocks to change everything. Where now people have opened their eyes, they see, "Hey, well, what the hell?"
They were wrong about the money, and that's literally the easiest thing that should be, where they should be able to control it, right? And if they were wrong about that, why would we listen to them on anything else?
We should do what's best for us. Yeah, yeah, like you say, it's almost like it's the foundation. It's the foundation of trust, and it's the foundation of people when they wrap their head around that, like you say, they can then go, "Well, fuck, they were so wrong."
I mean, so fucking wrong. - Oh, I like that. - Yeah, all right. But whichever way it's certainly not for the good of the people, and yeah, these blocks that go on top, that's where the really exciting stuff can happen.
I think this is just, you know, as passionate as we are about it, it's the things that come next that are really going to be exciting. At the end of the day, it's just, it's going to be a protocol, it's going to be a base layer, and it's going to be a way that people can trust,
you know, build new systems that even if the governments don't like it, it doesn't really fucking matter, like you can just carry on. And it does seem to be growing. I don't know if you've noticed the same.
I've noticed, and again, the last six months, people have changed their view. Things like Elon getting involved have been quite a big one to like family members who completely just wrote it all off for years have now come and gone, "Oh, Elon's bought."
Right, okay, I think I might buy, but the only reason I won't buy is because it's really bad for the environment, so I'm actually not going to buy it. And so it's a that's the new-- Now you have the stupid ass new narrative that it's killing the planet and boiling the oceans.
And it's just like, "Jesus, you guys, why do you listen to all this bullshit you finally understood that maybe it's something worthwhile to take a look at, and then all of a sudden now it's, "Oh, we're going to end the world again."
And it's unbelievable. Yeah, and there's so much good writing. There's so much out there that you can send, but again, it's the same old thing, they don't want to look at it. They don't look at it and they'd rather go watch the news.
Yeah, fuck. Once you get into Bitcoin, shit, you never look at the news the same. It's unbelievable. I can't actually even watch it anymore. Yeah, I haven't watched it in years, but to be honest.
It's painful, so I do like a little bit on the side just to be able to pay for the rent to go and do like painting, decorating like handy jobs and stuff like that on weekends, just because, you know, I'm trying to build a podcast and it doesn't really fucking earn any money and needs a little bit of income.
But I've been doing some work recently and they have the news on all day loud. And it's all like the talking head bullshit about finance and all the shit that, you know, or Brexit's caused this and that and all the corona bullshit.
And I have to now bring noise canceling headphones with me because I cannot. It makes me feel physically, I don't even know what the word is. Like, don't you just get pissed off listening to it?
I get not anxious, but I literally start getting my heart. Yeah, angry. My heart rate goes up. And I'm just like, how can you even spew this bullshit and believe every word you're saying?
Like, how far is your head up your ass where you actually believe any of this is real? Like the people that are even like spewing it to the public. Like, how could you sell yourself out so hardcore for a couple of dollars?
Or they believe it? I think some of them believe it. But it's unbelievable. Yeah, I can't paint because I'm like, I enjoy it. Like, I actually enjoy painting. So I'll be there and I'm, you know, redoing the front door.
And I'm like, I'll just take my time here. I'm going to make this a fucking good job. It's going to look beautiful at the end of this. And I enjoy that guy. It's almost like a meditation.
Yeah, but as soon as I hear that, I'm just like, right, everything you hear, like, wrong, wrong, lie, wrong, absolutely fucking stupid. And then it makes you think less of the people who are paying you to do the job, because you're like, hold on, you're listening to this.
Do you guys listen to this? Do you actually believe what are you saying? Because now I'm pissed off even more. I don't even know if I want to paint your door. I'm going to do a shit job. Yeah, it is true, man.
It's crazy to think that people are doing this and they're like completely brainwashed to actually just constantly listen to this shit. They love it, but yeah, I mean, and that's the thing that's nice to be able to come back into this space and you can learn everything within Bitcoin Twitter.
It was saying you set up this telegram group. It's like, okay, realistically, I'm not going to do it now because I'm too busy. I do want to do it at some point. But when I want, when I get to go, right, I'm going to learn about 3D printing, I can just go, cool, I'm going to check out this telegram group.
I'm going to learn about that. And you can learn skills that are actually useful, actually relevant, that you can improve your life with rather than just sat in front of the fucking news and talking about coronavirus and whether you wear 12 masks or 13 and you know, wear a wetsuit and goggles when you go to the supermarket,
because that's a new regulation and the science backs in. You just have to, you just can fucking ignore all that and just go, no, I'm going to actually spend my life learning interesting and useful things.
And there are so many people who couldn't teach her about it. I was learning yesterday about permaculture from Zino. I was chatting to him and I had to actually change the conversation with about 35 minutes in.
I was like, I have literally not talked about Bitcoin yet, because all I want to learn about is permaculture. So I had to like, keep steering it back towards that. But there's so much interesting stuff going on.
And that's where these pieces seem to be falling into place. There's like five to 10 really interesting things going on. And 3D printing is certainly one of them. And when they merge, our citadels are going to be so fucking cool and so efficient as well.
Dude, our citadels are going to be the greatest thing on the earth. It's going to be awesome. It's just, where do we go for them now is the question. Where do we build these citadels? Where do you get the land where you're not going to be forced down to have a fucking injection?
That's the new question that is right at the top of my head. I think about that all the time too. Like, where the hell are we going to be able to go and not get bothered? Any thoughts on it? Any further forward with it?
I don't know. I'm trying to figure out, even just in the United States, a good state to go to, right? Because, but who knows if, who knows if that's even a good plan in the long run? I'm very jealous of America right now.
It seems like, quite often I'm like, why aren't I just in Texas? Like, what the fuck am I doing in Texas? This next level, man. Seems so cool. Like, I'd love to be there. It's got weather.
It's got barbecue. It's got loads of really cool Bitcoiners. Everyone can have their guns. It seems like they're free. I don't think there's any mask wearing diaper face shit going on. It seems that's a pretty good bet.
And then outside of there, a lot of people talk about Portugal, but it's in the EU, so that's fucked. I don't know. It's hard, but there's enough people who want the same sort of thing that I think there must be somewhere that competes.
Yeah. If anybody figures out a really good final run place, I would love to know about it because I think about that all the time. Since I'm in Minnesota, we have Governor Walls. And who knows when the hell we'll get all our restrictions out, or nowhere near the south, where they're all starting to take everything away again.
And that's amazing to see. And I'm really jealous. Yeah. That's for sure. Would you consider moving or are you sort of very much rooted where you are? It all depends. I know the wife and I always think about if we have to move, maybe somewhere in Montana would be pretty sweet too.
But I don't know. I guess if shit really hit the fan, yeah, we'd bail. And be like, well, I want my freedom back. We'll go somewhere where we can enjoy it again. Right now, it's not the worst, but who knows what the hell the future lies.
I mean, that's the same here. It's like on the face of it, it's not that bad. I don't really care that much about lockdowns and stuff, because I enjoy my own company. I like doing stuff at home.
Like I'm not like, I don't love going to clubs and bars and stuff like that generally. So I'm like, yeah, I'm not that bothered. And although I completely disagree with the face mask stuff, because it's just dumb as shit, I don't really mind it, because it helps with my privacy.
So I'm kind of like, yeah, it hasn't affected me that badly. But the vaccine passport stuff that's coming and God, that's the thing that scares me the most. It's coming. It's coming. I mean, we've been watching it slowly happen.
And, you know, I was saying to everyone three, four months ago in my family and everything, I'm like, that's going to happen. They're like, oh, don't be such a conspiracy theorist. Yeah, that's what's funny.
Do everybody thought we were all conspiracy theorists like seven months ago, when everybody saw the shit coming, right? Yeah. And now it's here. And they're like, oh, God, it's like, yeah.
Now we need to fight back or lose everything. Is this what you want? Now I'm an anti-vaxxer. You say no to one vaccine. And they're like, oh, you don't like vaccines. We might as well just bring polio back.
And it's like, no, that's not what I'm saying here. This is completely out of context. Like, I'm 100% against the frickin' COVID vaccines. All the other ones, sure. I mean, when you're kids, I got someone I grew up in.
Those are fine, like the regular ones, but it's over the past, however many years, kids have to take like 57 now, right? And it's fucking crazy. And it's going to be like seven or eight when we were young.
I had like one, a fucking like that I remember anyway. Yeah. And yeah, this is literally what my auntie said to me. That's actually like, oh, what about polio? And I was like, well, that's fine if people want to.
Yeah, like I'll take the polio vaccine. That's totally cool with me. I'm not talking about this bullshit COVID one. That there's legitimately no reason to take it, because you still have to wear all your fucking shit.
And you could probably still get COVID right after it. So what is the hell is the point of taking it in the first place? And pass it on. Yeah. And then the thing is, it's like, look, if you want to take it, crack on.
And they all have. Oh, 100%. I've got no issue. You take it. You do whatever you want. If you want to inject heroin in your fucking eyeballs, do what you want. As long as it makes you happy, fine.
But don't come and inject me with that shit. See, that's the thing. I don't want it. Yeah, like if people want to take it, if people want to wear masks, I don't give a shit. But don't be the person that forces everybody else to, if it does nothing to them.
Like don't force other people to do your shit. Like you do it, make yourself happy, let other people do what the hell they want to make happy. Like I don't, I hate it. Unless it's to stack sets.
I'm getting to the point now where I'm having to fucking scream at people who are close and I love them. Dude, I've stopped. I literally don't even tell people to buy it anymore, because it's literally just a broken record.
Oh, well, it's kind of got a zero or all this shit. I'm like, all right, I tried warning you for three years. Obviously, you see that. I'm doing pretty good in it because I'm building a business in it.
So Bitcoin is here to stay. And if you can't tell now, I mean, I'm done. You're on your own. Good luck. You'll buy it when you buy it. HFSP. Yeah, exactly, dude. I've actually said that to a couple of people.
They're like, Jesus Christ. How did it go down? They did not, they're like, Jesus, do you want me to stay poor? I'm like, it's just something to say. But enjoy it because I will not be like you.
And then I just like the way it is. Yeah. Maybe you should have something in the shop, a little HFSP. I don't know, something that you can give them. Like a little... Oh, I didn't even need it.
You should do maybe something like that. Oh, no, I'll tell you what it is. I made years ago a little note that I would give people and say, put this on your fridge and I was trying to shill buying Bitcoin like in the three to five, six thousand range.
Oh, yeah. And I was like, just fucking buy it. Please just listen, buy a weekly amount. And when they'd eventually say no, it's okay, fine. But put this on your fridge that I've told you, that it is going to go to a million dollars a coin in the next 10 years.
And just watch and look every month at the price and look how wrong you are. And when you realize you're wrong, you can give me a call. No one has. Yeah, exactly. Maybe make a little fridge magnet, which could be how fun staying poor.
I told you, if you realize you're wrong, you're a fucking idiot. Give me a call, I help you. Yeah, give me a call. The best part is like we tell them to buy it like the 3K range and shit like that.
And like, no. Then we tell them, okay, it hits 10,000 and we're like, buy. Like, no. And then you tell them, oh, look, it hit 20 again. You all time high, you're like, buy it, like seriously, you see what's happening?
And like, no, it's going to crash. And then you go, okay, one more time, it is $50,000. Like, we are breaking all times high. This is, this is your chance, buy it. And they're like, no, no, it's too expensive.
I can't afford that. Now I'm like, Jesus, it's so annoying. Like literally every step and every time it goes to 10, 20, 30, 50, they're always like, sell. And I'm like, really, if I listened to your advice, I would have sold everything at 10.
Where would I be? It's just, it's just unbelievable. I've literally stopped telling people to buy just for the fact that it's literally, no, and I'll buy the dip or it's just going to go to zero.
Yeah. And I'm just, I'm just done. It is a waste. It is a waste. I've done waste in my time. I'd rather focus on my business and build cool shit for people that actually care about it.
Are you, are you seeing within the business that you're getting a growing base of buyers? I guess, I mean, most of your stuff is done over lightning. You don't necessarily know if you're having repeat customers, or I guess you have to keep records for a certain amount of time.
But are you seeing that user base growing? Or is it like a hardcore group of bitcoins who are just like, you know, running 10 nodes? Yeah. So I very little look at all the names or what's coming in because I don't even have time.
And all that shit automatically deletes after 60 days. So if I already even want to like look at records and see how many like repeat customers and look at the data, I can't, which is good because that's what people wanted.
I did it deleted personal data after 60 days because that's what community wanted. And I would want that shit too. So I mean, I've definitely seen my orders are going through the roof. And I honestly think there's a whole influx ever since we started going past 50 of new
people coming to the shop, which is awesome to see because that means maybe more people are finally understanding how important Bitcoin is and what it's going to bring to the future. And they're getting excited about it and they want cool, cool shit for it.
I know lightning shells and Triton shells are nonstop being ordered. And that's my number one thing right now. So that tells me I'm bullish as hell on Bitcoin nodes because you only buy those to run a Bitcoin node.
It definitely seems like more people are running them. And not just one people are running different nodes for different things. And you try one and then you move on to something else. And more and more people are getting into this, especially with some of these easier nodes to run like Umbral, for example.
And then you've got your Poseidon, which is coming, when will that hit the shell, so be able to ship? Because that thing, does it fit four am I right? So I actually got to fit five if you do it right.
And you can really for SSDs, we're finalizing the redesign on the SSD portions. That'll be about seven weeks till it gets here. All the Tritons have been ordered and they're making them now.
And that'll be six weeks and I'll have them in the shop to ship out. And pre-orders are live on the website too, finally. Okay, so you can fit five Raspberry Pi's and four SSDs in one of those.
And do they come as just, it looks like it's like Aluminium or something, the Poseidon one. Yeah, so it's all steel? Yep, it's all metal. So all powder coated metal, which is awesome. Yeah, it looks nice.
Some people just love a full metal case. And those things, the Triton fully loaded is a rock. It's awesome. And same with the Poseidon, I mean, once you have everything in there, you can feel it.
It's a hell of a weight. So like on your website now, I'm looking in this Poseidon and Triton pre-order. Is that someone would buy that as a bundle for both? No, God, did I confuse people?
Hopefully I didn't confuse people. No, no, that's just where you can... Just fuck with you? No, no, no. So that just says Poseidon and Triton pre-order page. You select which one you want to pre-order and you can add to your cart.
If it's confusing, I can redo it. No, no, it's just me being a fucking idiot. Don't worry. No one else will fall for that. But yeah, no, they look really sweet. And then I like that you've got all the different options, like what to order with it.
Because when we were talking before, we were saying about the... I've forgotten the fan up bloody hell. I've got like five of them. I can't remember the name of them. The multi-colored fan.
The RGB cooler fans? It was called something else, I think. I can't wait what it was. Fan shims? Shims fan? It goes like all different colors and then it has like a geek pie. Oh, the geek pie fans?
Yeah, yeah, they're cool. Dude, I love those RGB fans. Yeah, when it's loaded, is that what they're called RGB fans then? Yeah, so RGB just means the lighting, the LED effects in them. So it does the full array.
But they are geek pie fans, yeah. When they're fully loaded and you've got like a few of them running in there, it just looks so, so nice. Like it changes the whole feel to like... I don't know if I had one of those in my office and someone comes in.
Like at the moment, I've just got like five nodes all just like scattered around like with SSD over here and this over there and they're not... You know, there's no like real design behind it.
It just looks like some fucking weird nerd who just likes playing around with hardware. Whereas with this, like if someone comes in and they see that, they're going to be like, "What's that?"
And you can, it's such a good like open where you can say, "Ah, well actually, there's this thing called Bitcoin, right?" See, that's the best part. And it's pretty cool. That's the best part is that's why I love allowing people to fully customize their shells or whatever because they can make it towards them and they want to show it off.
And then it's literally just a talking piece, right? And that's what it's all about. To spark conversation or even just to look cool because we designed the Triton to basically off of like a gaming computer.
So I'm a hardcore gamer myself. I made it look pretty close to one of my gaming rigs with the full RGB setup and that's why we built it like that. So what sort of gaming are you like a PC gamer or?
PC Master Race all the way, man. What's that? You have to enlighten me again. It's just something PC... It's just something PC gamers say. Council suck PC Master Race is what we say. Is that speed wise then?
It's just like you get better graphics on a PC. I mean, all the hardware is better on a PC compared to councils. Councils can fight me over it. I know they will, but no. PC gaming is next level.
It always will be. And that's just what I was born and raised on, man. Building your own rig, buying all the computer parts. It's like building your own node, right? And that's why I find it so amazing.
It's because I've literally built 10, 15 different gaming computers in my lifetime. And I used to actually build custom PC gaming rigs and put them in towards contests. Oh, really? Yeah, that's cool.
So you would do... And at that point, were you 3D printing or you were just designing somehow with the hardware you could buy off the shelf? Yeah, so this was way before 3D printing and this was just using design software. This was back when I was like 18.
And it was just a hobby of mine. I would design the computer case, get it all cut out of metal and plexi and acrylic and assemble it and powder coat it myself. And I actually got featured on the magazine cover because I won some competition at a land in Portland, Oregon.
So you've always been quite hands-on. You like to build shit, basically. Yeah, man. And that's the best part and that's literally what I'm building with crypto cloaks. Bitcoin's my new addiction.
Gaming used to be it in computers and now it's Bitcoin. And I mean, I get to do everything I love, so... What's your thoughts with all this stuff happening, which has been happening forever?
I think my fourth or fifth podcast I ever did was with MandelDuck from Zebra-D. I call it Zebra-D, but I think people call it Zebra-D. I think it's Zebra-D, that's what I call it, but... What's your thoughts on all of that that's happening?
Because back then, I was like, I can see this, I'm not a gamer, but it just fucking makes sense whenever it was a year and a half. Oh, it's a lightning? The lightning payment's built in? That's the coolest shit I've ever seen.
Literally, they did it for CSGO. I ran a gaming organization where all we did was play CSGO. So the fact that there's lightning payments in CSGO is the greatest thing ever. I think what they're building with lightning on top of games like that, with micro payments and everything is next-level gaming,
and I think that's going to be the future. Because that's what I've always wanted, right? Especially getting into Bitcoin and being a gamer myself, what they're building is amazing. And I can't wait to see where it goes.
What's your thoughts on it? Like, do you have a timeline in your head because you know gaming? Like, do you look at this thing and you go, "Okay, this is where lightning's at. I'm able to take payments within my store.
I can see what's happening in the space, and this is what's happening in the gaming world." Where do you think these two merge? And it just becomes an absolute fucking no-brainer for everyone.
Even taking out the idea of understanding Bitcoin, understanding why it's important, understanding any of that just that people can go, "I can earn these things called Sats. I can change them for dollars if I want if I'm a fucking idiot."
But it just makes it more fun. Like, how long away do you think we are?
From what they're building and where the space is. I mean, there's always been in-game currencies. It's just everybody, each EA, Ubisoft, all those companies that have their own in-game currencies and shops, right?
Would I love to see lightning be the priority over all these games and all this in like five years? I think that would be amazing. I think it's going to take a long time to get to that point just because seeing how slow corporations are to even just understanding Bitcoin, maybe it's going to keep accelerating, right?
But I think that hits in five years where a couple games even just start to think about having lightning in there without all these other companies on the side putting it on top where you actually have it built in.
I think five years would be just pretty bullish. I would love for it to be sooner. Yeah, it feels like it should be, I mean, it feels like it should be. It should be next year, all the new games should be having lightning built in.
Like, if you just think about everything in in-game currencies and how this is a global currency, all digital, well, this is what every game should be using. But the problem is all the game corporations are really greedy and they want to narrow it down to their store, their in-game currencies so they can control it.
Yeah. And that's where they get their money because if you put money into that system, well, you can't take it out. Yeah, we'll go through probably a whole cycle of their shitcoins. So Nintendo will have their own Nintendo shitcoin and everyone will have, you know, you have like Nintendo credits and shit like that.
So they all have their shitcoins already. So if in five years, maybe 10 people start taking it seriously where Sats is the standard and they use lightning networks built in-game. I mean, that would be amazing.
It would be so cool. I was just seeing the other day too. Matt was talking on Citadel's dispatch. He had one of the guys from Zebedee and the other guy from my brain's gone blank. But talking about this kind of stuff with gaming, he was saying, "Oh, you know, wouldn't it be good if Mario Kart, for example,
you could have like, you know, in a party mode, you're playing against other players?" And I was like, "Oh, that's the first time anyone talks about anything to do with gaming that I actually play because it's the only game I own."
Hell yeah, man. I have Mario Kart, which I have on a projector screen. And me and my missus player is sometimes in the evening just for a laugh, like just like, "John, I'm a Mario Kart." Yeah, right. Fuck it.
That's about all I can play because I'm shit at all the other like serious games. Yeah. If that could be played and anyone in Bitcoin was like, "Yeah, do you want to chuck a few sats on this?"
And just like, "Let's have a race tournament." Yeah, I'd play that. I'd fucking play that all the time. Yeah, it'd be so much fun. You could have it live-streamed. Bitcoin is to chat shit and just, you know, race against each other.
So my question is like, you know, obviously Nintendo aren't going to do it for five years. Is there a chance that we can build like a layer above that where we can play these sort of games but have like a pool or like a betting competition which somehow links in so we can't fuck each other over?
Like, is there some sort of hack that could be done where the winner of the race has to have the pool that whatever's, you know, held? Yeah, I think that's exactly what ZBD is building, like, right?
Oh, really? They legitimately have, because you join their servers and you have to pay certain amount of sats to even get into their server. And depending on how well you do in that match, you get that payout.
For any game, no, or just for just... For just CSGO, I think... I don't know if there's another one, but I know for CSGO but they are legitimately starting the building blocks because this is a steam game.
Yeah. So if they can do it for this game, then once they get this narrowed down and really dialed in, maybe they can project that to other games, other councils. I'm going to have to speak to Mandelduck again because this isn't my sort of thing, but fuck, I would play that.
That'd be so much fun and it can be sort of passive because you can still have a conversation while playing these sort of games because it takes half your brain power, you know? Oh, yeah. Half of mine and a tenth of some of the devs and stuff.
But it just would be so much fun to do that and you can still have a meetup, but it's just a few sats on the line and especially with all this lockdown stuff and people not being able to move, it would be really fun.
Yeah, I agree. I think that would be awesome. You could even set it up where you have... You put in X amount of sats into this pool, right? And then whoever wins the race based on... I don't know how to track the results, it just pays right out.
I mean, I don't even know if you need to have an overlay to really program something like that in. You could build a small community where... Yeah, you'd have a custodial wall where everybody pays in and then you'd have like an admin of that wallet.
I'd be like, "Oh, you won the match, you go pay out." Have like an element of trust there. If anyone's listening to this and they go, "That's a good idea, I'll do that." Reach out and if you have the skills to do it, we'll set it up.
Yeah, that'd be freaking cool. I'd play some Mario Kart for some sats. Absolutely. I'll lose some sats, but enjoy the process. That's all that matters, man. So what else is happening with the business?
And what else is happening with you? It's been a little bit of time that since we featured you guys, we talked about the Trites and we talked about the Poseidon. Is there anything else that is in the works?
Anything that you can tell me that's happening now that you're having a bit more time to dedicate to this? Yeah, so we're actually getting an intern for the summer. They actually reached out and was like, "Hey, do you have any internships?"
And I was like, "Well, we can figure out something where you can get some experience designing." So there's a highly requested item that's always make an open dime look like a USB stick. So I'm going to have him work on that, where it's just an easy retractable three part print that should take no time at all to print it off
so I can pump these things out. And so it just kind of retracts like a USB and goes back into like a little casing that literally makes an open dime look like a USB stick. So I've drawn up some plans, tried to figure out how to get the mechanism to work there and I'm sending that off to him to design it up to get some experience.
So I'm really looking forward to that because I know a lot of people always ask about that one. I'm really just still trying to push the filament and getting that more mainstream and just trying to catch up on orders.
It's crazy. Like last month was another all-time high sales record month and we blew it out of the water by like 50 percent. And that like we're hitting numbers that I never would have even imagined that I would be hitting and it's it's crazy.
That's awesome. I just can't keep up. It's just I keep buying more printers and I'm glad that I actually have the time that I can actually put towards the company now by going full-time because I definitely need it.
I couldn't have picked a better time to go full-time because right now it's it's booming. That's fantastic to hear and very well deserved like we said you know at the beginning of this. It is not an easy thing to build a business.
It certainly isn't an easy thing in this industry as well because if something shit people are ruthless they'll fucking tear it down. Just takes time. Yeah it takes time and quality as well and that's very much what I see.
So I'm sure that it will go from strength to strength and these sort of little ideas. I like the stealth ideas. I think that's really cool. The more stealthy stuff the better like you know obviously the showy gaming rig stuff is really nice to have in an office and like it's a talking point.
But all the ideas of like you know that the mounts and what you're talking about with hiding an open dime all those kind of things in the coming years as we see number go up I think it going to become more and more important.
Oh 100% everybody wants to hide their stuff securely right then nobody wants to be too flashy with it when it starts to hit the numbers that everybody's thinking it's going to hit I agree.
Yeah do you have any thoughts on that? Are you like how much time do you spend thinking about the finance side you know in comparison to the design and all the other stuff that you're doing?
Honestly I don't care about the Bitcoin price that much. I don't have time to think about it. Am I really excited if we hit 100k this year? Yeah I think that'd be amazing. Am I ever really watching the price on a daily basis now?
No. I wake up have breakfast go in the shop until my normal hours and I finally can hang out with my wife and I don't really worry about the price because everybody knows we just hold it for a while right.
We're not accumulating to go sell it off in six months and as I've I don't know been in the space longer I slowly start to hit that and the only reason I get price updates is when I'm on Twitter and people are posting about the price.
I'm like oh oh shit oh like I look at my block like I walk up my stairs and I look at the block clock mini. I'm like oh shit okay we're down to here or oh man we're back up to 58 it was just like.
That's the only that's the only times I really noticed it now. I don't I don't go out of my way or check my phone all the time like I used to. I think going full time has allowed me to like simmer down and really just put a lot of focus into the business and make it great
and then I don't have to worry about price so much and it's kind of nice. Oh definitely it's a much calmer place to be and it is kind of irrelevant like if you're not looking to sell any way if you are in this for the long run it doesn't really matter but there is still you know like for me as well if it hit 100k I'd be like
you know I'd fucking just celebrate. Oh yeah don't don't get me wrong I get excited when we start hitting all new all new all-time highs like if it hits like 75 000 or 100 000 I'm gonna pop a bottle of champagne and celebrate. I love it when we hit new all-time highs and there's
always like a little mini party you can have but the day I used to check all the time like daily multiple times but I don't know I just stopped at that I see it every now and then like either on Twitter like the block lock mini or whatever but I don't go out of my way. I'm jealous you have one
the yeah man they're so awesome I got it on the very first the very first version so it was like a hundred dollars off man I'm glad I did that yeah I fucking I want one so bad but because we're moving like I'm trying to sell off all my shits I'm like I keep wanting to buy this stuff and I'm
like I'm moving into a airstream so oh shit really yeah I'm building one at the moment or rebuilding dude that's awesome are you gonna go travel in it or are you just gonna go find a plot of land and settle down well it's a mixture of the two so my mrs is a performer so she does like
a lot of musical theater and that kind of stuff oh yeah and so chill quite often book jobs where it's like okay I've been booked for a year I'm going on tour you know it's three months here three months so you'll be able to follow in your airstream yeah so basically that's the way about
three years ago I said I've got these properties that was my current business I don't believe it's a good investment anymore I want to fucking sell everything and buy sass and I've been doing that for the last three or so years I've just got the house now and I walk around my house every day
selling shit so like the last year and a half that we've been in here because we were moving out of the other places as we sold them and I see something like honestly I know it's a meme and yeah like the chair meme I've got two chairs in my house now I've sold all my chairs I've sold
all my furniture I've sold all my books that I don't need I've sold all my shit because I know I'm moving into a 25 foot trailer for yeah I don't have room for all that I've got I've got no room so the last thing to go will be the house and then we'll go on tour for about nine months and then
the plan is to yeah buy a plot of land and build a citadel that is the plan it's just the thing that's thrown the spanner in the works is well we don't know where that land's gonna be because of all the fucking weird shit that's going on at the moment but we know we've got that and then
if we're building something well okay at least we have like a space because I've built properties and and done a lot of building work where I'm in there and it's just horrible trying to live in a Renault is the worst oh fuck yeah I've done it too much is so I'm just like no we've got the caravan
and what airstream you want to be posh like we've got that and it will be to a nice spec but yeah that is the dream dude that's super exciting oh yeah well I'm just hoping I'm hoping the price doesn't run before I sell my my house that's true oh I sold it and someone pulled out and so
I keep seeing the price going up I'm like oh god that does suck dude because yeah literally all in watch it run to 100k and you're like I haven't even sold my house yet what the fuck I know I know because I just want to like I want to do that I probably got to spend I don't know I probably
got to spend another 15 000 on the airstream but every other penny is going into dude that's awesome so we'll see fingers crossed oh yeah man I hope that works out that sounds freaking amazing that's almost like another dream dude I've always wanted to build up one of those vans and make it a camper
van just go living it for like a year and drive around so you're literally doing something that I've wanted to do that's fucking awesome you're in the right country for it though that's true true it's a little bit bigger here yeah you've got you've got all the sites and you can sort of
see a bit of everything England is I mean to be fair we have got some beautiful places you go to like oh hell yeah North Wales and up to Scotland and there are some amazing places but it's not quite like America you do a tour of America it's like you get to see so much and it's so varied but
yeah you should do it I mean you're gonna be too busy with your work now I'm sure but someday man in a few years when we hit a million a coin and you say you know what I can let the intern do the the print shop and I'm gonna go traveling for a year and just chill exactly
that's the dream man all right mate well look um I really enjoyed catching up with you really good to see what you guys are doing and pushing the game forward so thanks for everything you do and it's always a pleasure chatting with you dude thanks for having me on again I love this
