FUD BUSTER - bitcoin is for criminals, drug dealers and shady characters

Bitcoin is worthless artificial gold. Bitcoin consumes more energy than entire countries. It's a way to both hide dirty money and destroy the environment at the same time. Bitcoin just seems like a scam.

So I forgot the whole business. It's anti-social, stupid. We've got debit cards, isn't like we don't have a pay on stock. Feeling Bitcoin and we'll shut the fuck up about Bitcoin, your money-hungry opportunist.

Stop that. This is the FUD buster line. Please leave your name, your FUD and your response after the beep. Hey Max, it's Gitaan. Today the FUD is Bitcoin is used by criminals, drug dealers and shady characters.

Well, actually Bitcoin is a neutral form of money that can be used by anyone. Similar to the internet for communication and warm clothes and shoes for weather protection, Bitcoin is used by many to protect themselves from censorship, seizure and inflation.

Yes, criminals use Bitcoin. There is no doubt. Criminals also wear shoes to run away. They have mobile phones and internet access to facilitate communication and illicit activities. They also drink water to survive. At what point does the use of something become criminal?

But I also think it's a terrible idea to use Bitcoin for criminal activities. Given the transaction is recorded on a permanent public ledger written on thousands of computers worldwide. Let's not forget that the currency of choice for criminals is still the US dollar.

I'd argue that the paper notes in your wallet have more traces of cocaine on them than anything else you've ever touched. Criminals actually have smartened up. Chain surveillance reports are showing that Bitcoin is used less and less by criminals as the years pass.

So whilst it may have been fair to say it was used for nefarious purposes in the earlier years, that narrative has no lead to stand on anymore. The overwhelming majority of participants are using it as a tool to avoid seizure, censorship,

defend themselves against inflation over the long term, and of course, using its volatility to trade it with fiat and make a quick buck.
