To begin with, what is Bitcoin? When bit 47? A lot of people are familiar with lightning and liquid is effectively layer two. But one, two, nine. What is taproot? For in taproot, that's the first new protocol upgrade since Zagwet.
Difficulty adjustments. How do mnemonic seed words work? UTXO management.
What's up, you ungovernable misfits? Bing-bong here to talk about noise mitigation for at-home miners. The first time I plugged in one of my miners and heard the fans running at 9,000 RPMs, I thought my wife was going to kill me.
Well, fear not, as there are many solutions to this issue. I'm going to talk about a few of them today. Hopefully, I can lessen the worry or fear you may be having about the noise. One way to mitigate the noise is to immerse them.
This is a process by which you run the miners. In a liquid that allows you to take the fans off of them. With this setup, the miners make very little noise. This setup is also most expensive and is usually done by pleb miners that have at least dipped their toes into the air-cooled mining side.
Second way to mitigate the noise would be to buy or build a black box. They are made by upstream data. You can purchase one from them or build one yourself. This box is insulated and designed to run outdoors if needed.
It uses the intake and exhaust fans on the miners to pull air into one side of the box and exhaust it out the other. Many plebs have had great success with decibel levels after using this method.
If you think this method is for you, visit upstream data's web page or scroll through bitcoin twitter as there are many different homemade builds people are doing. If you see something you like or have questions, feel free to hit them up.
Most people in this space are happy to help with designs or just answering any questions you may have. A third option is to make a setup similar to mine. I got my design from a Cono Alchemist.
I run my miners vertically in what I like to call the hash hut. I have an opening cut at the bottom of the hut that allows ambient air in. The air goes through the miners and I have a barrier that separates the ambient air from the hot air.
The hot air side is then sucked out using a simple attic fan from Lowe's. Now this method does not make them silent, but it does get the fans running around 3-5,000 RPMs depending on the outside temperature, which I feel is suffice.
I do this in my garage, which is connected to my house. The hum from the miners can be heard in the house, but it is not loud. I have had conversation with folks in my garage that have no idea I mined bitcoin.
They never even ask about the noise. That's how unnoticeable it is. My decibel levels can range from anywhere from 50 to 60. The fourth way is to use a fan shroud and add an in-line fan so that you are able to pull cooler air through the miner.
There are plenty of places to pick up fan shrouds. One place to look is crypto-clicks website and you will find a shroud for just about any miner. This is more for the pleb that is only running 1-2 miners.
The reason being is you don't want to have to buy an in-line fan for say 6-7 miners. I currently run 5 miners in my setup. If you are planning to mine with more than a couple, then my setup or a black box would be the best bet.
I hope that I have been able to give you some solutions to that dreaded noise question that comes with at-home mining. I can happily say, I am still married and quite honestly, after that first month, your family won't even hear the hum of the miners.
